If you’ve ever been to a baseball game, you’ve probably noticed that the roof over the field is typically fixed in place. But what exactly is a fixed roof stadium? And how do they differ from stadiums with retractable roofs? Read on to find out!

A fixed roof stadium is a type of sports venue that has a roof over the seating area

Fixed roof stadiums offer fans a unique sports experience compared to their open-air counterparts. Also known as domed stadiums, these enclosed structures provide protection from the elements so that games can continue even in cases of inclement weather. Not only does the roof protect from the rain, but it also serves as insulation to keep spectators warm during colder months, and conversely, cooler during sweltering summer days. Additionally, noise is trapped inside the stadium providing for an atmosphere that is both spirited and vibrant yet still suitable for conversation. Whether you’re attending a football game or a concert, a fixed roof stadium promises an unforgettable evening!

The roof protects spectators from the elements, such as sun and rain

At the casino, the roof is a welcome sight for casino goers, who venture out in the sun and rain. Not only does it provide protection from the elements while they are sitting at tables or playing slot machines, but it even keeps spectators entertained during big events. It shields them from both sunburns and heavy rains so that they can enjoy every aspect of the casino 1 dollar deposit atmosphere. Thanks to its sophisticated design, casino-goers can engage in their favorite casino games and festivities without fear of being affected by the weather outside.

Fixed roofs can be made from a variety of materials, including metal, glass, or fabric

The option of selecting from a range of materials for fixed roofs makes it easy to find the perfect fit for any building. Metal creates a strong and durable roof that can stand the test of time; glass is perfect for creating an eye-catching feature in an otherwise drab structure while fabric is ideal when needing a lightweight covering. Whatever material you decide on, with fixed roofs installed correctly, you’re sure to get plenty of protection against whatever nature throws at it.

They are often used for football and baseball stadiums because they can provide better protection against bad weather than an open-air stadium

Retractable roofs are an important advancement in stadium design because they provide superior protection against inclement weather. This makes them ideal for football and baseball stadiums, which remain open to the elements during normal use. With a retractable roof, any type of game can be completed regardless of the conditions outside – rain or shine, heat or cold. Not only do retractable roofs keep spectators comfortable and dry, but they also allow stadiums to hold events that may otherwise be impossible due to weather restrictions. From large-scale musical performances to highly competitive sports games, these versatile structures offer a host of new entertainment possibilities.

Fixed roofs can also improve acoustics within the stadium, making it louder and more exciting for spectators

Fixed roofs over sports stadiums don’t just provide shelter from the elements, but can also vastly improve the atmosphere for spectators too! With a roof in place, sound bounces off the structure much more effectively, creating a consitently louder, more immersive experience. An added bonus is that this increased volume of sound allows for clearer audio, so spectators actually get to hear more of what’s going on – giving an altogether better perception of quality and providing something truly special.

Many sports stadiums have a fixed roof in order to protect spectators from the elements and improve acoustics. Fixed roofs can be made out of many different materials, each with their own benefits. Metal roofs are durable and offer good protection against the weather, while glass or fabric roofs allow for more light and better views. Baseball and football stadiums often have fixed roofs because they provide better protection against bad weather than open-air stadiums. What type of roof does your local stadium have?

We owe the emergence of this fascinating sport to England, where motocross was born. It was here, on the outskirts of the capital, that the first motocross competition was held in 1908. Later, they were also held in France without much success. In the forties motocross became quite popular. Competitions were held on tracks that had difficult terrain and obstacles created by the organizers. They had to be looped. Regular motorcycles were adapted for racing, making them as light as possible. Suspenders appeared that made it possible to make motorcycle jumps. This added to the spectacle of motocross. But the spectators wanted to see all the twists and turns of the sport fight, the skill of cross-countrymen in overcoming difficult obstacles along the whole track.

The first to catch this need was Frenchman Pierre Bardet. At a stadium in a suburb of Paris in August 1948, he organized a motocross with built slides, water fords, sharp bends in the track. This event immediately made such races extraordinarily popular. Eight years later, in May 1956, a half-mile race was held at a similar sports facility in the heart of Prague, with several specially constructed slides and ditches filled with water. Similar events in the 1960s were held in Belgium and Norway. In February 1961, for the first time in America, a cross-country car race was held at a stadium in Miami. It was organized by the Florida motorcycle clubs along with the Association of Motorcycle Dealers. However, the development of motorcycle racing in stadiums was hindered by a regulation on motocross rules that provided for competition only on natural terrain. When the problem was settled in 1971, there were no obstacles to racing in American stadiums. In March 1971, the first professional race was held at Daytona. Spectators here watched it standing on the ground, almost touching the athletes.

So from the traditional motocross was born its new form, later called Supercross. The author of this term was the American Michael Goodwin. It was he who in 1972, for the first time by all the rules of show business, arranged a stadium motocross. There were colorful decorations. There were musical ensembles and performers. The audience sat on the comfortable grandstands. The event was called the “Super Bowl of Motocross”. Its resounding success gave the example of similar races in many American stadiums. Their pinnacle is participation in the most prestigious and premier supercross series, the AMA Supercross Championship.

Supercross, which came out of motocross, has come to mean the competition motorcyclists in the open stadium or in a special room. They need to equip a track with natural dirt, sand or turf. Its length in the open air is 400 m, and in spaces under the roof – 300. On each race out 25 athletes. The race lasts 10 to 30 minutes. Usually one or two extra laps are added to it.
The time in which the race should end, determined by the volume of the motorcycle engine, the qualifications of athletes. Only ten minutes are left for the young men’s race. They usually take part on motorcycles with the engine capacity of 65 cubic meters. Within a quarter of an hour is the race for amateurs. If the athletes ride on 85cc motorcycles, 10 minutes is added. Most of the race is for machines with 125cc and 250cc engines. Most popular U.S. Supercross championships (GP Grand Prix) or national championships (Pro AMA) feature half-hour races, plus two laps. When the time or extra lap finishes, the finish line judge waves the flag into the cage.

Soccer is the most popular sport in the world. The rules of the game are the same for all countries and continents. And it does not matter whether it is a game between children on the street or the world championship.

The first “universal” soccer rules were adopted in 1863. And in 1886 the four British soccer associations set up the International Football Association Board (IFAB) with sole responsibility for devising and approving the game’s rules. FIFA joined the IFAB in 1913.

The laws of soccer are relatively simple.
But the requirements for a soccer field must strictly adhere to established standards for size and construction.
A soccer arena is a complex engineering project. And the higher the level of competition, the greater the requirements for compliance with the FIFA Rules of the Game.

Rules of measurement of the soccer pitch parameters
Traditionally, all soccer pitch parameters are measured in yards (British unit of measurement of distance), as it was the British associations united and founded the IFAB.

Measurements are taken from outside the lines, as they are part of the area that is bounded. The ratio of length to width of a soccer field depends on its purpose. It is important that the sideline of the court is longer than the goal line.

The marking rules and dimensions apply directly to the playing field. But when designing a soccer stadium it is important to consider the areas around the field behind the goal line and the technical areas behind the sidelines of the soccer field. Since the grass surface extends beyond the soccer field marking lines to provide for play and placement of the technical area. What is the size of a standard soccer field?

Maximum and minimum dimensions of a soccer field by markings: Width: minimum 45 meters (50 yards) and maximum 90 meters (100 yards). Length: minimum 90 meters (100 yards) and maximum 120 meters (130 yards). What is the field area in hectares: 0.405 hectares to 1.08 hectares (or 4050 to 10800 square meters). Important to remember! When designing a soccer field, you must provide space outside the field of play (runs or outs)

These safety zones for players are needed around the perimeter of the field of play. Runs or outs are the distance from the edge of the field of play to the first seats, which ensures the free movement of players and match officials.

The free space outside the area shall be with a flat surface. The size of runs (FIFA and UEFA requirements): a minimum of 1.5 meters around the perimeter of the field of play, of the same grass surface as on the field of play. Behind the grass surface is laid tiles or a running track. How many meters is the soccer field for international matches?

Length: minimum 100 meters (110 yards) and maximum 120 meters (130 yards). Width: minimum 64 meters (70 yards) and maximum 75 meters (80 yards).

Safety zone size: 7, 5 m behind the goal line and 6 m on each side of the field of play. Consequently, the total field area including the field of play and the surrounding area up to the first seating line is 120 m by 80 m.

For major events and important matches where a large influx of media is expected, it should be extended to 125 m by 85 m. The above recommendations for the parameters of the soccer pitch are extremely important for the FIFA World Cup. These are closely monitored by the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA).

Variants of soccer field coverings
With the development of modern high-tech industries, artificial grass is becoming increasingly popular. Although, until now, the classic soccer pitch surface is considered natural turf, which is very demanding in terms of maintenance and allows you to play only a few hundred hours a year! Ч

In order to fully train, soccer clubs need to “get hold of” several soccer fields for training. Artificial soccer grass replicates the properties of the live grass surface and there is no need to water, fertilize, and “treat” gaps.

That is why soccer clubs make all training fields with artificial turf on which you can play 24/7 in all weather 365 days a year. With the right choice of materials for soccer field surface (turf specifications, amount and size of sand fraction, crumb rubber) it is possible to easily replicate the parameters of a classic stadium with natural grass.

If artificial grass is used for international matches or between national teams belonging to FIFA, the turf must comply with the FIFA Quality Programme for soccer.

A court is a place to play tennis, which is a level area consisting of a playing field bounded by lines and a space from the lines (perimeter) to the fence, called the runs.

The standard dimensions of the court, including the runs, are 18.3×36.6 m. The playing field is a rectangle with dimensions: for single game 8.23×23.77 m; for doubles 10.97×23.77 m.

Measurements are taken at the outer edges of the markup lines. Evolution of changes in the shape, markings and dimensions of the court here. Methodology for making court markings here. The length of the backstops on courts designed for official tournaments should be no less than 6.4 m on each side (for club and training areas, it is allowed to reduce the width of the side runs to 5 m). The width of the side runs, respectively, must be at least 3.6 m on each side (not less than 3 m).

Center and first courts at Grand Slam tournaments, the most prestigious ATP and WTA series, as well as Davis Cup World Group courts have runs of at least 8.23 m behind the back line and at least 4.57 m – behind the sideline. The permitted unevenness of the court is 3 mm for each linear 3 m of the surface.

The distance between the axes of the posts for fixing the net is 91.4 cm on both sides of the outer lateral lines. If the posts are intended to be removable, the depth of the embeddings under them is 0.75 m. The depth for the carabiner (hook) of the central strap, tennis net, is in the center of the playing field (recommended depth – 20.5 cm). Covering the courts can be both natural and artificial.

Outdoor courts (outdoors) are oriented on the longitudinal axis in the “North-South” direction. This arrangement is most comfortable when playing on sunny days (morning and evening sun does not dazzle the eyes).

Permanent equipment are: a net with a central strap; poles and stanchions for the net; a umpire’s tower; fencing behind and to the side of the court; bleachers or seats for spectators (if the court is designed for tournaments).

For some tournaments, ITF requirements specify a minimum number of spectator seats. For example, for Davis Cup – not less than 12 thousand.

  • The rules provide for:
  • The net (black or dark-colored) must be stretched so as to completely cover the space between the two poles, and have cells of such size that the ball cannot fly through it;
  • the width of the upper white strip of fabric is 5-6,35 cm on each side; the maximum diameter of the metal wire of the net is 8 mm;
  • maximum width of the central white band of the net – 5 cm
  • the height of the net at its center – 91,4 cm (adjustable by the strap)
  • the cross-sectional area of the netting posts must not exceed 15 sq. cm or 15 cm in diameter (with a circular cross-section)
  • the area of the cross-sectional area of the net posts (used in case of single game) must not exceed 7,5 square centimeters or 7,5 cm in diameter;
  • the height of the posts or props above the upper edge of the net must not exceed 2.5 cm. the distance between the axis of the post or props to the outer edge of the corresponding sideline is 91.4 cm
  • distance between the posts (on their axes) – 12,8 m; the judging tower must be such that the seat is located at a height of 1,8-2,0 m from the surface of the court.

Courts in the open air must have a fence of woven metal mesh (“Rabita”) with a cell from 3.5 to 5 cm or a fence. The recommended height of the fence around the court – at least 3 m, except for areas behind the sidelines, which may be 1 m.

For better visibility of the ball behind the back lines use dark backgrounds. They also play a windproof function on outdoor courts. Tennis backdrops shall be fitted to the ends of the court and shall act as windshields and shading screens. The backdrops are made in sizes: 2.0×12 m, 2.1×18.0 m and 2.7×18.0 m.

Backgrounds can also be climbing on the fence non-flowering species of vines (wild grapes, ivy, hopscotch or tall shrubs. True, it takes a few years to form a living backdrop, but the longevity will be counted in the century.

Volleyball is one of the most popular sports in the world. It is a fascinating game that requires few requirements for the material and technical base of the volleyball court. This sport requires a specially prepared volleyball court that meets a number of requirements and guarantees the safety of the competitors.

Variety of volleyball courts.
Open volleyball court. This is a sports court surrounded by a wire mesh. Outdoor volleyball court must be constructed taking into account all possible aspects, such as rainfall, UV radiation and soil characteristics on which the court will be located. It is important to position the volleyball court properly so that the sun does not blind the eyes.

Indoor volleyball court . The construction of such a volleyball court is possible in a stadium or gymnasium. Most professional competitions are held indoors. This volleyball court works in all weather compared to an outdoor volleyball court (volleyball court). The cost of building an indoor sports court will be higher than an outdoor one.

PVC
The most common coatings for indoor volleyball courts are PVC or vulcanized rubber floors. Here are the distinguishing features of each. The thickness and layering of the surface are the most important factors in determining the performance guaranteed by the flooring. The surface treatment is designed to minimize the risk of burns from friction and abrasion during player jumps, defensive actions and rolling ball recovery that cause ground impact.

Vulcanized Rubber
Vulcanized rubber sports surfaces for volleyball courts are suitable for heavy surface use.

They are the ideal solution for schools, multi-sport or amateur facilities. The elastic lining provides proper biomechanical response and cushioning, and the surface finish provides proper traction.

Volleyball Court Dimensions and Description
A volleyball court is an area where players play a game and is considered a valid playground. We will introduce you with information on volleyball court starting with the characteristics of the volleyball court itself, the parameters, size and attributes of the court, as well as explain how many zones a volleyball court is divided into.

Volleyball court is a rectangular or symmetric court with a length of 18 meters and a width of 9 meters. There should be at least 3 meters of free space at the side, 5 meters at the back and front and at least 7 meters high if the volleyball court is enclosed. The dimensions of the volleyball court (dimensions of the volleyball court), including the free area, are 28 meters and the width is 15 meters. The volleyball court requires a level horizontal surface and requires a sports flooring that should not slip during play. The markings of the volleyball court are applied to the surface indicating all areas to be played.

The width of each line on the field of play is 5 cm.
It is necessary to have correct markings of lines, areas and places.
It is also possible to build a mini volleyball court at your discretion. The mini volleyball court (Mini Volleyball court dimensions) is 4.5 to 6 meters wide and 9 to 12 meters long, divided by a net of 1.9 to 2 meters high.

Volleyball net
The volleyball net is a volleyball net made of nylon and is generally 1 meter wide and 9.5 meters long.

The height of the net is 2.43 meters for men and 2.24 meters for women.
The height will be measured from the center of the net and must be the same along the length of the net, although a deviation of 2cm is allowed.
The net consists of 10 x 10 cm squares and a white border at the top, which includes a flexible cord that allows you to stretch the net to the same height in the center and at the ends.

Steps to Build a Volleyball Court

The installation of a volleyball court consists of steps that must be followed for quality construction of the court. For the most optimal arrangement of the volleyball court, as in any construction, preparatory steps are followed:

  • The first thing to do is to decide what kind of volleyball court you need: amateur or professional. An amateur playground can be designed for a variety of sports.
  • The next stage is the choice of construction and finishing materials. In the process of selecting material, our specialists will study the terrain to choose the most convenient and practical elements and materials.
  • The next step is to prepare the base for the installation of sports surface. This type of work is carried out by our experienced specialists, since the slightest inaccuracy in the calculations may lead to cracks, bumps, indentations and other irregularities.
  • The last stage is the installation of sports equipment, final inspection and commissioning.

]]>
If you run in a stadium, you probably know the length of the first inner track, but there are four to eight tracks on the track. How long are they? What are the stadium measurement requirements, and do all stadiums have the standard 200 and 400 meters?

What kind of stadiums are there?
A stadium is not just a track and field concept. A runner thinks of a circular track and a soccer player of a green field with a goal on both sides. Most often the stadiums for these two sports are combined, but there are also facilities designed either only for athletics or only for soccer.

Indoor facilities for hockey, figure skating and volleyball are commonly referred to as arenas.

What is the length of a running track
Traditionally, an outdoor running track at a stadium has a length of 400 m, while indoors runners train on a track of 200 m. The answer as to why this is the case is quite simple: in order to run a 400-meter lap, a huge arena would have to be erected. That’s why during the winter season track and field athletes, when training and competing, limit themselves to 200 meters.

How length is measured
The shortest (inside) track is always taken as the basis for the length of a track. It is either 400 or 200 meters. It will be measured along a line 30cm from the inside edge. All subsequent paths are measured along the same line, but separated from the inside edge by 20 cm.

At the same time, the length of the track when measured should be slightly less than the calculated length. For one lap, the difference should be 1.88 m, and it does not depend on the total length of the lap. For example, for a 400-meter track, the measurement along the edge will be 398.12 m.

When the stadiums are accepted, the track is measured with metal measuring tapes or tape measures of centimetre division. On bends, the tape is placed on the rib.

Why 200 and 400 m?
First, a few historical facts. The dimensions of the original Olympic stadium in the Greek city of Olympia were 212.54 m long and 30 to 34 m wide. The start was given on the east side of the stadium and the finish was at 192.27 meters on the west side. At that time, there were no events that covered a full lap, so the small size of the stadium with sharp curves was not a problem back then.

Well, the standard of 400 and 200 meters is not backed by history. It appeared relatively recently. There were 500-meter tracks at the Olympic Games in the early 20th century. In his autobiography “No Bugles, No Drums”, three-time Olympic champion Peter Snell talks about winning the 800 m on a 500 m track, so such tracks must have existed at least until the late 1950s.

Another example: in 1951 Emil Zatopek set a world record in the 20,000 meters (59:51.8) on a track that, oddly enough, was only 363.78 meters long.

There is nothing mythical about the fact that a classic track is only 400 m long. Such dimensions were dictated by the standard soccer field, around which the track usually runs. As for the size of the track in the track and field arena, in this case the figure was determined based on the convenience of construction and counting.

There is also a version of the measure of length in ancient systems. Thus, the Babylonian “stadium” was equal to 195 m, and the stadium system of the pharaohs – 209 m. There are several other values of stadia: from 172.5 m to 230.4 m – but what exactly was used to measure the distance in the Olympic Games, exactly not known. Some scientists equate the Olympic stage with 192.27 m.

How many lanes in the stadium.
According to the standards of the International Association of Athletics Federations, the stadium must have 6 to 9 tracks. A smaller number is also allowed, but no less than four. For the Olympics or World Championships a tenth lane may be added.

It would seem that why regulate the number of lanes? However, it is undesirable to design more than nine, because the resulting larger bend radius gives an advantage in the 200 m run. Even the records for this distance are recorded with a bend radius of no more than 50 m.

Read on: 14 rules for running in the stadium

In the arena, where the length of the inner track is 200 m, there should be 4-6 tracks with radii of turns from 11 to 21 m.

Running track parameters
Length

In the arena, each successive track is longer than the previous one by about 3 m, i.e.: 200 m, 203 m, 206 m, 209 m, and so on.

Width
The required width of the running track is 1.22 m with a tolerance of +/- 0.01 m. The width of the track includes 5 cm of the marking line. The width of each track does not change.

Indoors, the width of the tracks is slightly less – 0.9-1.1 m with a tolerance of +/- 0.01 m.

A basketball stadium is a playing area for the game of basketball, which is a rectangular flat hard surface without any obstacles. For official FIBA competitions the dimensions of the playing court must be 28 meters long and 15 meters wide from the inner edge of the boundary lines. For all other competitions, the existing playing areas must have a minimum size of 28×15 meters.

Courts not intended for international competitions may differ from the accepted standards (for general use, in schools or universities, etc.) and usually range from 20 to 28 meters in length and from 12 to 16 meters in width.

Basketball court marking standards
Basketball court markings are conditionally divided into 5 components:

Limiting lines. Located around the perimeter of the court and set its size. Lines that run along the court are called sideline lines and those that are behind the baskets are face lines.
Center Line. Divides the court in half parallel to the face lines.
Center Zone. Is a circle and is placed in the middle of the center line, and therefore in the center of the entire field.
The three-point line. Is a semi-ellipse and is placed around the boards on both sides of the field. It restricts the close shooting zone.
The free throw line. It is situated in front of the boards, parallel to the baseline and is bordered on the sides by the paint lines.
The standard width of the lines is 5 cm. All contours and lines must be the same color (usually white) and be clearly visible from anywhere on the court.

General lines are used to limit the playing area of the rink. According to FIBA standards the lateral lines (along the pitch) shall be 28 m long and the front lines 16 m long. Deviations from the accepted standards are allowed for public playgrounds. Usually basketball courts in schools or gyms are 20m long and 12m wide.

The center line is parallel to the front and divides the field exactly in half. According to standards – it should extend beyond the side lines on 15 cm on both sides.

In the middle of the center line is a circle with a diameter of 3.6 m, which limits the central area of the field. This area is where the ball is played at the beginning of the game.

Three-point lines are placed around the boards on both sides of the field and consist of two straight lines of length 2.99 m and a semi-circle. The straight lines are perpendicular to the front line at a distance of 0.9 m from the side lines. Despite the fact that visually the distance from the ring to the side of the three-point line seems smaller than to its center, the distance from the shield to any point is 6.75 m.

The penalty lines limit the immediate area near the backboard. They consist of a trapezoid and a free throw zone.

Despite its name, the “trapezoid” is a rectangle (until 2009 it really was a trapezoid), which is placed under the backboard. Its dimensions are 5.8 m long and 4.9 m wide. The shield is 1.575 m from the front line in the middle of the court. In front of the shield at a distance of 1.25 m is a semicircle, which limits the area to pick up the ball.

At a distance of 4.225 m from the board ends the trapeze zone and begins the free throw zone. It is a semicircle with a diameter of 3.6 m (like the center circle).

Lines of the paint zone
These lines are notches on both sides of the trapezoid (parallel to the sidelines). They limit the zones for players fighting for the ball during the free throw.

Zones on the basketball court
The basketball court is divided into zones by markings. Each zone has its own special rules.

The central circle is used as a separate zone when the ball is played at the beginning of the game. One representative of each team are in a circle on their side and jump for the ball, after it is dropped by the judge. All players are exclusively on their side of the field, except for one who rebounds on the opponent’s side.

Neutral Zone
A special feature of this zone is that as soon as a player of the attacking team with the ball crosses the center line and is on the opposing side, he cannot pass the ball to a player of his team who is on the other side of the field (i.e. behind the center line on his side).

The three-point line limits the close shooting zone. A hit to the basket from outside the three point line gives the team three points. If the shot was made inside the zone, it brings two points.

Three second zone
This is the area closest to the basket. It is called the three-second zone because the offensive player cannot be in this zone for more than three seconds. This is where most shots are taken and therefore offers the best defense on offense.

Penalty Shooting Zone
In controversial situations, a penalty shot is taken from this area. A player of the attacking team must throw the ball without crossing the trapeze line. In this case, players of both teams are not in the three-second zone. They are in position along the paint lines on the sides of the trapeze and may not step over the paint lines before a player taking the free throw does not throw the ball.

How do you mark out a basketball court?
It is better to mark the basketball court, whether it is an international competition field or an amateur field in the open air, using special equipment. This will ensure long life of the surface, the lines will not fade and will promote fair play.
