The World’s Most Expensive Stadium

The most expensive soccer stadium in the world today is the legendary Wembley (London, UK)! For its construction it was spent almost 1.5 billion U.S. dollars and 4 years of construction works!

It should be noted that, “legendary” was the stadium, built back in 1923 and hosted, among other things, the first postwar Olympic Games in 1948. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, but progress and increased demands did not leave a chance to this (along with Maracana) “veteran”! As a result, in 2003, the stadium was completely dismantled and the construction of a “descendant” began immediately in its place, opening its doors in 2007.

The new Wembley Stadium has not only an impressive capacity of 90,000 people (the second largest in Europe) but also a cutting-edge design! The project was designed by architectural guru Norman Foster, and implemented by Australian company Brookfield Multiplex. Stadium, thanks to the creators, also has its own remarkable “accessory” – the world’s largest loose element of the roof (315 meters long)!

The stadium, apparently trying to catch up with the achievements of its predecessor, has already marked such important sporting events as the 2012 Summer Olympics and two UEFA Champions League finals (2011 and 2013).
